Training Courses & Curriculums

“It is so frustrating for me to try to learn yoga with my head in a strange position in downward dog so that I can see what’s going on in class. I’m so grateful for DYF to help me overcome this huge frustration and actually understand what is going on. Thank you DYF!” ~ Luann, PA

“I am so grateful for DYF and offering me a way to reduce my stress, clear my mind and learn how to be overall healthy. Thank you so much!”
~ Walter, NY

FOR ASL INTERPRETERSInterpreters.html

Our first priority is YOU!  We are strong ally’s in helping you become a certified Yoga Teacher.  We aid in the Yoga Teacher Training certification Course at the Sivananda Yoga Ranch in Woodbourne, New York every June.

How do we do that?

  1. We network with highly-qualified sign language interpreters who volunteer their time to serve in this mission. They must go through an evaluation process to determine if eligible to participate.  Want to volunteer?

  2. We offer support and personal guidance on how to specifically teach yoga to Deaf community members.

  3. We act as the liaison between the Sivananda Yoga Ranch and the Deaf students.

for ASL-fluent Yoga Teachers & Sign Language Interpreters

We believe that everyone should have equal access to yoga. For this reason, we recognize, that at this time, there are not many Deaf yoga teachers. This means we need to find alternative solutions to create more Deaf-friendly yoga classes. To do so, we network hearing teachers with Deaf teachers and provide educational programs to educate ASL-fluent yoga instructors and sign language interpreters on the nuances of teaching/interpreting within our community.

For this program DYF does one of two things:

  1. 1) We use our current network of Deaf yoga instructors to pair up with sign-fluent yoga teachers and interpreters to share vocabulary and techniques.

  2. 2) We create a training curriculum of our own and work with our current teacher network (Deaf teachers first) to present a certification course that also offers CEUs.

At this time we currently have no curriculums planned for 2012. To find one near you, contact us directly and we’ll be sure to point you in the right direction.
