Deaf Yoga Day | Sunday May 20, 2012
a day dedicated to honoring the Deaf Yoga Community

Who benefits from Deaf Yoga Day proceeds?
Three ways you can join us on the 3rd annual Deaf Yoga Day (DYD) Sunday May 20, 2012:
1.Sponsor a DYD Benefit Basket; at your local yoga studio.
2.Bring a donation to your local DYD Benefit Basket Studio, supporting Deaf and Hard of Hearing yogins in their quest to learn yoga.
3.Make an online donation to support this year’s causes.
ASL interpreters highly encouraged to volunteer at your local yoga studios creating more sign-friendly classes. click to volunteer
Donations collected during Deaf Yoga Day supports the DeafYoga Foundation’s (DYF) service efforts in bridging the gap between Deaf community members and Yoga. DYF is a 100% volunteer-based charitable non-profit organization whose mission is to serve as an education and resource center for the global Deaf yoga community, creating and ensuring equal access to the transformative teachings of Yoga. All donations following 501(c)(3) tax exemptions.
DYF is in a place of growth where community interest is greater than our budget can support. We currently have $144 in our bank account and by participating and/or donating you help us grow and serve.
This year’s proceeds directly fund:
*Partial scholarships for 3 deaf yogins to attend Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training this June in New York = $7,000
*ASL interpreter travel for volunteers during June training course = $1,500
*Ongoing DYF Monthly expenses (6 months) = $5,500
*New multi-media interactive newsletter template = $1,800
*Video blog post-production = $2,500
*Apple computer & necessary video software for educational video blog = $2,300
Deaf Yoga Day is a day dedicated to celebrating and supporting Deaf yogis in the journey to gain equal access to Yoga. There are some 28 million Deaf and Hard of Hearing community members in the U.S. and less than 30 yoga teachers fluent in American Sign Language (ASL), making access to asana classes, workshops, training courses and conferences few and far in between.
Together we can make a difference... and it only requires you to donate or put out a Deaf Yoga Day Benefit Basket at your local studio.
Join yoga enthusiasts and studios across the globe as we come together to honor and support the latest movement in the yoga community... Deaf Yoga.
This year’s third annual Deaf Yoga Day is a day all yogis, regardless of language and culture, stand together in support of equal rights for Deaf Yogis around the world. Yoga means “union” and it seems only fitting to celebrate this unifying practice that is just beginning to impact the Deaf community and its members.
Can you imagine a life without yoga?
Neither can we... and that’s exactly why we created Deaf Yoga Day! :)
